Aims of MA in Social Research:

To provide students with practical experience of the range of qualitative and quantitative research methods which are necessary for doctoral research in the social sciences, and which meet the requirements of vocationally orientated social research in industry, national and local government, and public services.

To introduce students to the underlying epistemological, methodological, political and ethical dimensions of the research process.

To allow students to develop key debates and issues in substantive areas of sociological scholarship.

The MSc Social Media & Management is designed to provide a rigorous analysis of the emerging properties of the Information Age and their relevance for organisational management. It investigates contemporary ICTs and the socio-cultural and economic factors shaping their development and diffusion and their implications for managing organisational change.

The MSc Social Media and Interactive Technologies provides an interdisciplinary understanding of social media and digital technologies based upon a concern with social inequalities and a emphasis on conceptual approaches to understanding social computing. The course is designed to provide an invigorating mix of social and technical skills, which are increasingly relevant for a wide range of situations. This includes an understanding of the key role of social media in society, and the ability to conceive of new interactive communications technologies. The course is therefore designed specifically to enable the student to develop skills that are increasingly demanded by business, academia and the voluntary sector.
