The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is the premier global organization for academics, students and practitioners specializing in information systems (IS). Founded in 1994, AIS is now an international professional society of over nearly 3,000 members from more than 80 countries and a key player in the advancement of the IS academic community.

AIS seeks to improve the professional IS academic community throughout the world by:

  • creating and maintaining a professional identity for IS educators, researchers and professionals across the world, promoting communications and interaction among members via a technologically
  • sophisticated professional society, providing a focal point for contact and relations with bodies in government, the private sector, and in education that influence and/or control the nature of information systems,
  • improving curricula, pedagogy, and other aspects of IS education
  • creating a vision for the future of the IS field and profession
  • establishing standards of practice, ethics, and education in the IS community

The Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) is an annual research conference in the information systems discipline held in the region. AMCIS attracts up to a thousand or more attendees principally from North America but increasingly from other regions of the world as well.  It is conducted under the auspices of AIS. Colleagues from prominent local universities take responsibility for organizing and making local arrangements associated with the conference.
