The Social Informatics Cluster works at the intersection of technologies, work practices and organisations, by studying Information technologies in their organisational contexts. A multi-disciplinary group that draws on insights from HCI, CSCW, participatory design, organisational sociology and ethnomethodological studies of work, the cluster’s activities aim to go beyond traditional ways of developing IT systems, by engaging with IT professionals and breaking down the barriers between IT systems design and use. This approach to design leads to solutions that provide the competitive advantage that organisations are looking for.
