Information Systems
The term Information System (IS) is ‘a system that comprises people, machines, and/or methods organized to collect, process, transmit, and disseminate data that represent user information’. Is a computer-based tool that helps people transform data into information. Information system is often used interchangeably with information technology. Over the years, information systems were to ‘become (in theory if not in practice) more narrowly understood as database systems and other uses of information technology were neglected’ (Dahlbom, 1996). The practice of designing information system faced the corresponding social aspects already in 70's and 80's. Many programs related to the information system thus extensively cover also the social aspects.
