Arts & Informatics

The field that connects Arts and Informatics is very wide and it has many various topics to discuss. Here is just an example. When humans are playing music or listening to music, a great deal of data processing is involved. Recognition of phrases, styles, instruments, composers and performers is easily done by humans. Ways to model and program such capabilities by means of grammars, rules, neural nets and genetic algorithms are discussed in this field and also synthesis of music in terms of algorithmic composition and in terms composition tools. The impact that computers have on performing art is surveyed, for example in combination with vision, exemplified by virtual orchestras, conducted by light batons or moving dancers.
