Introduction

The study of social informatics (SI) as independent programme inside of study of sociology has begun in the Faculty of Social Sc University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the year 1985.

The Faculty of Social Sc is (in Slovenia) also officially the host faculty for the field of social informatics.

The programme of Social Informatics  combines the social sciences with other disciplines, e.g., informatics, computer science, and statistics. The programme enables students to use information technologies in empirical research in designing, creating, and controlling information systems in the social sciences. This programme also prepares students for studying problems of an information society from sociological perspective.

Social Informatics programme requires students to be not only familiar with substantial issues of social sciences, but also with mathematics, statistics and informatics.

The study is ambitious as it expects students to have interests and talents to work in different fields.
